Locations of Child Health Care Centres 2006

Almost 1.300 Child Health Care Centres

On 1 January 2006 1,282 locations had a Child Health Care Centre. 62 of these 'locations' were mobile (driving) centres. Some locations had more than one Child Health Care Centre.

The Child Health Care Centres are evenly spread throughout the Netherlands. However, there is a clustering of Child Health Care Centres around the 'big cities' (Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Den Haag and Utrecht). Most of the mobile Child Health Care Centres can been found in the countryside, such as in north-east Groningen and the most northern part of the province of Noord-Holland.

Child Health Care Centres take care of 0 t0 4-year-olds. The Child Health Care Centres are regionally organised within the so-called Youth Health Care Regions. Usually the Child Health Care Centres are (part of) so-called homecare institutions.

In recent years the number of Child Health Care Centres has decreased. In September 1998 there were 1,523 Child Health Care Centres, while as of 1 January 2000 there were only 1,465 remaining (Verheij et al., 2001). The number recorded in 2006 (1,282) is 12% less than the figure recorded for 2000 and 16% less than the figure for 1998.
